The Sales Engineer is responsible for developing and managing customer relationships, generating sales growth, and providing technical expertise across industrial and manufacturing markets throughout Michigan.

 

The position combines technical knowledge, consultative selling, and business development skills to identify customer needs, recommend solutions, and support long-term account growth. The individual will work closely with customers, operations teams, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to deliver value-added solutions that improve reliability, productivity, and operational performance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute territory growth plans.
  • Identify, qualify, and pursue new business opportunities.
  • Generate profitable sales growth within assigned territory.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key decision-makers.
  • Expand existing customer accounts through cross-selling and solution selling.
  • Maintain a robust sales pipeline and forecast.
  • Manage strategic and key customer accounts.
  • Conduct regular customer visits and facility assessments.
  • Develop account plans focused on revenue growth and retention.
  • Provide timely follow-up on customer inquiries and opportunities.
  • Monitor customer satisfaction and implement corrective actions when required.
  • Provide technical recommendations for applications and equipment.
  • Conduct product demonstrations and training sessions.
  • Collaborate with engineering and supplier partners to develop customer solutions.
  • Assist customers with troubleshooting and reliability improvement initiatives.
  • Support installation, commissioning, and implementation activities as required.
  • Identify and support capital projects and maintenance opportunities.
  • Participate in project planning and specification discussions.
  • Prepare and present technical and commercial proposals.
  • Coordinate activities between customers, suppliers, and internal teams.
  • Maintain accurate customer and opportunity data within CRM systems.
  • Develop territory call plans and customer engagement strategies.
  • Monitor competitive activity and market trends.
  • Prepare regular sales reports and business updates.
  • Promote a strong culture of safety.
  • Adhere to all customer, company, and regulatory requirements.
  • Complete required safety training and certifications.
  • Participate in customer safety programs and site orientations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Business, Industrial Technology, Certified Millwright, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and industry experience may be considered.
  • 3-7+ years of industrial, technical, or engineering sales experience.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing, automotive, industrial, energy, utility, or infrastructure customers.
  • Demonstrated success in territory growth and account management.
  • Experience working with centrifugal pumps and engineered solutions.
  • Strong mechanical and industrial application knowledge.
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications and drawings.
  • Understanding of rotating equipment maintenance and reliability principles.
  • Demonstrated experience identifying opportunities for pump repairs and upgrades.
  • Strong presentation and proposal development capabilities.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong consultative selling abilities.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Results-oriented with a focus on customer success.
  • Effective organizational and time-management skills.
  • Home-based position with primary alignment and support through the Chicago Pro Service Center.
  • Frequent travel throughout Michigan and adjacent territories.
  • Regular customer site visits including manufacturing facilities, refineries, storage terminals, industrial plants, and head offices.
  • Ability to work in industrial environments while complying with all applicable safety requirements.
  • Occasional overnight travel as required.

The Sales Engineer will be measured on:

This position serves as a critical link between customers, technical resources, and the business. A dedicated Sales Engineer based in Michigan ensures consistent customer engagement, protects existing revenue, drives new business development, and strengthens Goulds Pumps competitive position in one of North America's largest industrial and manufacturing markets.

Specific benefits are dependent upon whether or not the position is part of a collective-bargaining agreement. The salary offered to a candidate is based several factors such as candidate experience and qualifications, location, as well as market and business considerations.
Pay between $90,600 and $135,400 + commission & benefits
