About the Role

The Vice President of Operations is a key executive leadership role responsible for overseeing and supporting the operational performance, financial success, compliance, and strategic direction of a multifamily property portfolio. This position provides leadership and support to Regional Asset Directors, Regional Vice Presidents, Regional Managers, Community Managers, and onsite teams to ensure operational excellence, resident satisfaction, asset preservation, and achievement of ownership objectives.
The Vice President of Operations partners closely with Executive Leadership, Operations, Risk Management, Accounting, Human Resources, Marketing, and Client/Ownership groups to drive portfolio performance through effective leadership, financial oversight, operational consistency, and innovative business strategies. The ideal candidate is a strong leader with extensive multifamily experience, proven financial acumen, and a passion for developing high-performing teams and exceptional communities.

$190,000.00 to $240,000.00 depending on experience. 

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic oversight and leadership for all multifamily communities within the portfolio to ensure operational excellence and alignment with company and client objectives.
  • Ensure the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of operational policies and procedures, including Operations Manuals, Resident Handbooks, Maintenance Manuals, Emergency Procedures, and other compliance-related documentation in accordance with company and client standards.
  • Develop and implement standardized systems, processes, and performance metrics to improve operational efficiency, team productivity, and portfolio performance.
  • Oversee portfolio financial performance including budgeting, forecasting, revenue management, expense control, and NOI growth.
  • Ensure communities operate within approved budgets while maintaining high standards of service and asset preservation.
  • Partner with ownership groups and executive leadership to develop and execute strategic business plans for each asset. 
  • Lead, mentor, and develop Regional Asset Directors, Regional Vice Presidents, Regional Real Estate Managers and onsite leadership teams to foster accountability, engagement, and professional growth.
  • Build organizational bench strength through succession planning, leadership development, coaching, and performance management.
  • Establish clear performance expectations and measurable goals that drive operational success, employee development, and resident satisfaction.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws including Fair Housing, landlord-tenant regulations, OSHA, and other multifamily housing requirements.
  • Oversee adherence to management agreements, operational policies, service contracts, and accounting procedures.
  • Establish and monitor internal controls and operational checks and balances to mitigate risk and ensure high-quality property operations.
  • Serve as a strategic partner to ownership groups, investors, and executive leadership by providing operational insight, reporting, and recommendations.
  • Collaborate closely with Corporate Accounting, Human Resources, Risk Management, Marketing and Executive Leadership to support organizational goals and portfolio success.
  • Participate in leadership meetings, strategic planning initiatives, and client presentations as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Real Estate, Property Management, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of progressive multifamily property management experience, including oversight of large portfolios and leadership teams.
  • Proven experience managing Class A, B, value-add, conventional, affordable, or mixed-use multifamily assets preferred.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience in budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and NOI growth strategies.
  • Extensive knowledge of multifamily operations, Fair Housing compliance, and industry best practices.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to motivate, coach, and develop high-performing teams.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with property management software platforms such as Yardi, RealPage, Entrata, or similar systems.
  • Ability to travel regularly within the portfolio.
