We are a personal injury law firm serving clients across California and New York, with offices in Los Angeles, Stockton, and New York City. The Firm represents individuals in personal injury matters, including motor vehicle accidents, catastrophic injuries, and premises liability. As the Firm continues to expand its reach, we are focused on strengthening our referral network, community presence, and strategic relationships throughout Central and Southern California.

The Business Development Manager is a field-oriented, relationship-development role responsible for expanding the law's firm referral network, community presence, and strategic relationships throughout assigned territories. You will spend significant time in the field proactively developing relationships with potential referral sources, representing the Firm in the community, and creating opportunities that can develop into accepted, signed matters.

This role is ideal for a proactive relationship builder who is comfortable initiating conversations, hearing “no,” following up consistently, and being held accountable for measurable business-development activity and outcomes.

 

Responsibilities

  • →Field-Based Relationship Development: Spend significant time in the field proactively developing relationships with potential referral sources, including healthcare providers, non-PI law firms, automotive and transportation businesses, community organizations, and other relevant partners.
  • →Outbound Prospecting: Proactively identify and approach new relationship opportunities, confidently initiate conversations, handle rejection, and consistently follow up to develop productive relationships.
  • →Referral Network Development: Build and nurture relationships from initial contact through meaningful engagement, executive introductions, and measurable referral opportunities.
  • →Firm-Owned Relationships: Develop relationships on behalf of the Firm and facilitate introductions to Firm leadership so trust, knowledge, and follow-up are shared across the organization.
  • →Community & Event Representation: Represent the Firm at legal, professional, trade, and community events while identifying opportunities that support referral development and visibility.
  • →Pipeline & CRM Management: Maintain accurate CRM records, document outreach and follow-up activity, manage referral-source pipelines, and track activity and outcome metrics.
  • →Cross-Functional Collaboration: Communicate closely with Firm leadership, intake, marketing, and operations as relationships and opportunities develop.
  • →Territory Execution: Execute outbound business-development plans across assigned geographies and referral-source categories using Firm-provided guidance, talk tracks, and materials.
  • Relevant Experience: Three or more years of successful experience in business development, outbound sales, law-firm business development, legal marketing, community outreach, professional-services sales, healthcare liaison work, territory development, or another relationship-driven role.
  • Outbound Mindset: Comfortable proactively approaching new contacts, initiating conversations, handling rejection, and persistently developing new business relationships.
  • Relationship Development: Demonstrated ability to build professional relationships from initial contact through meaningful engagement and measurable business opportunities.
  • Communication: Strong in-person communication, professional writing, follow-up, and organizational skills.
  • CRM & Accountability: Working knowledge of CRM systems and comfort being held accountable to documented activity and outcome metrics.
  • Independent Fieldwork: Self-directed and comfortable spending significant time independently in the field while maintaining close communication with Firm leadership and internal teams.
  • Travel & Schedule: Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required. Must be available for frequent travel throughout California, regular lunches, evening networking, weekend events, and periodic overnight or out-of-state travel.
  • Event Support: Ability to transport, set up, and break down event materials weighing up to approximately 35 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.

 

  • High-Impact Role: Be the first dedicated professional in this function and play a visible role in expanding the Firm's referral network and community presence.
  • Field-Based Autonomy: Take ownership of executing outbound relationship-development efforts across assigned territories in a largely self-directed role.
  • Leadership Exposure: Work closely with Firm leadership and facilitate introductions that strengthen relationships across the organization.
  • Structured Support: Receive direction on assigned geographies, target referral-source categories, talk tracks, and leave-behind materials to support your outreach efforts.

 

Nice to Have

  • Professional fluency in English and Spanish.
  • Familiarity with plaintiff-side personal injury, attorney referral networks, healthcare or rehabilitation providers, the auto and transportation ecosystem, agricultural communities, or California community organizations.
  • Experience attending or supporting bar association, trial-lawyer, trade-show, or nationwide legal events.
  • Experience developing territory plans, event ROI reports, referral-source pipelines, or executive-level introductions.
