Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.\r\n**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and Montgomery Personnel Board Rules & Regulations**\r\n

Nature of Work

The fundamental purpose of this trainee-level classification is to\r\ndevelop the knowledge and skills required to receive and process calls for\r\nemergency and non-emergency assistance and to dispatch appropriate public\r\nsafety personnel. Employees in this class perform work under close supervision\r\nand receive extensive training in call‑taking, radio operations, and the use of\r\ncomputer‑aided dispatch (CAD) systems. The classification includes two\r\nmandatory training phases that all trainees must successfully complete. Phase I\r\nfocuses on call processing and E911 call‑handling procedures. Phase II provides\r\ndispatch training on either the Police or Fire radio. Trainees report directly\r\nto the Emergency Communications Supervisor.\r\n

Minimum Qualifications

A high school diploma or GED.� \r\nNOTE:� Qualifying education, training, and\r\nexperience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to\r\nperform the job will be considered.\r\n

Special Requirements

Employees\r\nhired as Emergency Communications Dispatcher Trainee must complete two\r\nmandatory training phases as a condition of employment. Phase I focuses on call\r\nprocessing and E911 call‑handling procedures. Phase II provides dispatch\r\ntraining on either the Police or Fire radio. Successful completion of both\r\nphases is required, and this requirement extends beyond the six‑month\r\nprobationary period. Failure to complete both phases may result in\r\nreclassification or termination.\r\n�\r\nApplicant\r\nmust be at least 18 years of age, must be able to type at least 32 wpm, and\r\nmust sign a willingness statement.� As a\r\ncondition of continued employment, you must pass a criminal background check\r\n(to include criminal and driving history reviews) and a drug test.� You must be willing to respond to the\r\nEmergency Communications Center to meet community service expectations during\r\nemergencies, disasters, and other significant events, adhering to directives\r\nfrom organizational leadership.\r\n�\r\n\r\n\r\nThe City of\r\nMontgomery's Emergency Communications Center operates around the clock, every\r\nday of the year. Successful candidates will need to be available for shifts\r\noutside typical business hours, including weekends and most holidays. However,\r\nemployees are compensated accordingly for their flexibility and dedication.\r\n

Kind of Examination

\r\nApplications are being accepted to fill current vacancies and any vacancies that may occur during the life of the register. The current vacancy is with the�City of Montgomery Emergency Communications Department.� Applicants will be screened and qualified based on the education and experience on the application and attached supplemental questionnaire.
