INTRODUCTION:

 

The Spokane Tribe of Indians Social Services Department works to support the health, safety, and well-being of Spokane Tribal families through culturally responsive services, advocacy, and community partnerships.

The Social Services Coordinator provides administrative and programmatic support to the Social Services Department under the supervision of the DCFS Director. This position assists in coordinating department activities, supporting foster care recruitment and licensing efforts, and helping community members navigate social service systems and resources.

The Social Services Coordinator plays a key role in strengthening services for Spokane Tribal members by assisting with program coordination, community outreach, and helping individuals access benefits and resources such as disability, unemployment, and other social assistance programs.

 



MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Assist with recruitment of foster homes within the Spokane Tribal community and surrounding areas
  • Support the foster care licensing process in coordination with the Child Placing Agency.
  • Maintain foster parent files and assist with documentation required for licensing and renewals.
  • Coordinate foster parent trainings, meetings, and recruitment events.
  • Assist with outreach efforts to increase the number of foster homes for Spokane Tribal children.
  • Maintain ICWA documentation and filing systems.
  • Provide administrative support to the Social Services Department
  • Assist with scheduling meetings and coordinating department activities
  • Maintain organized program files and documentation
  • Assist with preparing program materials, pamphlets, and reports.
  • Coordinate travel arrangements and training logistics for department staff.
  • Assist with ordering departmental supplies and maintaining inventory.
  • Assist with coordination of department events, workshops, and community outreach activities
  • Help maintain resource lists and referral networks
  • Assist community members in accessing services and benefits, including but not limited to Social Security Disability applications, unemployment applications, state, federal, and tribal assistance programs, referrals to community resources.
  • Provide information and referrals to tribal and external services providers.
  • Support community members in navigating complex social service systems





KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR POSITION:

 

  • Knowledge of the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA)
  • Knowledge of the Washington State Indian Child Welfare Act
  • Knowledge of the Spokane Tribal Youth Code
  • Knowledge of child abuse and neglect
  • General knowledge of child welfare and foster care systems
  • Knowledge of poverty guidelines
  • Knowledge of aging services/resources
  • Knowledge of adult protective services
  • Knowledge of social service programs and community resources
  • Understanding of barriers faced by Spokane Tribal families
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • Must have computer skills and be able to use Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Adobe
  • Ability to be organized and meet deadlines

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Associate’s Degree preferred in Social Work, Human Services, or related field
  • Minimum two years of experience in social services, community services, or administrative support
  • Experience working with tribal communities preferred
  • Experience in foster care or child welfare systems preferred.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation
  • Ability to work effectively with individual experiencing crisis, poverty, substance use, or mental health challenges
  • Must maintain strict confidentiality
  • Must perform duties in an ethical and professional manner
  • Must not have a founded allegation of child or adult abuse or neglect
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degre preferred in Social Services or related field.
