The Senior Account Executive is a mid-level client-service lead responsible for overseeing day-to-day delivery across key projects and serving as the primary contact for assigned workstreams within medical communications accounts. This role leads project execution and ensures deliverables are client-ready, informs budgets or components of budgets as assigned, and plays a key role in maintaining strong client relationships and trust. The Senior Account Executive also mentors junior team members and helps operationalize account deliverables through excellent execution.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the main contact for assigned projects, overseeing day-to-day execution from kick-off through delivery.
  • Ensure all deliverables are accurate, aligned to brand and client preferences, and fully ready for client review or distribution.
  • Build and manage detailed project plans, timelines, and workflows; coordinate cross-functional teams to keep work on track.
  • Anticipate risks to quality, timing, or budget and proactively develop mitigation plans in partnership with account leadership.
  • Act as a primary client liaison on assigned workstreams, managing daily communication, clarifications, and issue resolution.
  • Lead internal and external status calls, including setting agendas, driving discussions, capturing decisions, and confirming next steps for assigned projects.
  • Translate client feedback into clear, actionable direction for internal teams, ensuring expectations are understood and met.
  • Contribute to building client trust through reliable follow-through, thoughtful recommendations within scope, and a solutions-oriented mindset.
  • Support development and management of budgets for assigned projects or components, tracking hours, fees, and out-of-pocket costs.
  • Assist with estimating new projects and extensions, helping to align scope, timelines, and resources.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance to junior account team and shared services on processes, timelines, and client expectations.
  • Delegate tasks to internal stakeholders effectively, ensuring they have clear direction and understand priorities and quality standards.
  • Model best-practice communication, documentation, and client service behaviors; participate in onboarding and informal coaching.
  • Help foster a collaborative, accountable team environment where issues are surfaced early and addressed constructively.
  • Bring a strong understanding of client brands, therapeutic areas, and strategic objectives to project planning and recommendations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, drive efficiencies, and streamline internal and client workflows.
  • Contribute to proposals, SOWs, and capability materials by offering insights from day-to-day client engagement and project experience.
  • Begins to identify potential organic growth opportunities or unmet client needs to account leadership and support follow-up conversations as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Typically 3–5+ years of account service or project management experience in medical communications, healthcare marketing, or related agency environment.
  • Demonstrated success leading day-to-day delivery on complex or multi-stakeholder projects.
  • Strong client-facing communication skills, including the ability to lead calls, manage expectations, and handle challenging feedback constructively.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Solid understanding of medical communications deliverables (e.g., slide decks, advisory boards, congress materials, digital assets) and related workflows.
  • Comfort with basic budget tracking and an interest in growing financial acumen.
  • High level of attention to detail, accountability, and ownership mindset.
