We have an exciting new opportunity for a Policy Officer within the Circular Economy Policy Branch in the Policy, Programs and Finance Division at the NSW Environment Authority. In this role you will contribute to the development and implementation of strategic and regulatory policies and frameworks to deliver better outcomes for the environment and the people of NSW.

The Circular Economy Branch leads and supports key initiatives, including:

  • the phase-out of single-use and unnecessary plastics 
    developing product stewardship arrangements to better manage problem waste 
  • the implementation of mandated food and organics collections at households and businesses 
  • the implementation of the 2025 Waste and Circular Infrastructure Plan 
    growing the reuse and repair sectors in order to keep goods in circulation for longer 
  • promoting circular practices, such as the use of recycled content, in infrastructure and construction projects
  • reforms to the Protection of the Environment Operations (Waste) Regulation 2014.

The Branch operates in a matrix management structure to allow for flexible resourcing of projects based on changing priorities and project demands.  

You are a capable and motivated policy professional with strong research, analysis and writing skills.

You can translate complex technical, economic and regulatory issues into clear, relevant advice to your supervisor as an input to the development of policy positions and advice for senior stakeholders, such as the Executive and the Minister.

You are confident in supporting or leading the development of high-quality briefings, reports and correspondence, and managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

You work well both independently and collaboratively, and are comfortable supporting stakeholder engagement, consultations and project delivery.

You are adaptable, organised and outcome-focused, with a sound understanding of policy development and a commitment to evidence-based decision-making.
