The Opportunity
Join the team behind Peppina, The Tasman’s signature restaurant and one of Hobart’s most vibrant dining destinations. Inspired by Australia’s Italian dining culture and Tasmania’s exceptional produce, Peppina is a place where great food, great wine and big-hearted hospitality bring people together.
As a Sommelier, you’ll bring Peppina’s wine experience to life, sharing your knowledge and passion while creating genuine connections with our guests. Working closely with our restaurant and culinary teams, you’ll confidently guide guests through our wine offering, recommend thoughtful pairings and help make every dining experience memorable.
Key Accountabilities
- Deliver knowledgeable, engaging and personalised wine service to Peppina guests.
- Recommend wines and pairings based on guest preferences, menu selections and occasion.
- Share knowledge of wine regions, producers, varietals, vintages and styles in an approachable and engaging way.
- Maintain a strong presence on the restaurant floor, supporting the wider team throughout service.
- Assist with maintaining the wine list, cellar, stock levels and inventory.
- Ensure wines are stored, prepared and served to Peppina’s presentation and service standards.
- Participate in tastings and training to continually develop wine and beverage knowledge.
- Build genuine relationships with guests and identify opportunities to enhance their overall dining experience.
- Share wine knowledge with associates and support the development of the team’s beverage knowledge.
- Work closely with the Head Sommelier, restaurant and culinary teams to deliver a seamless food and wine experience.
Profile
- Passionate about wine, food and creating memorable guest experiences through genuine, people-first service.
- Experienced as a Sommelier or in a wine-focused role within a restaurant, hotel or premium hospitality environment.
- Knowledgeable and curious about Australian, Tasmanian and international wines, with a desire to continually learn and develop.
- Confident in understanding guest preferences and recommending wines and pairings to complement their dining experience.
- A natural communicator who enjoys sharing wine knowledge in an approachable and engaging way.
- Diligent in maintaining high standards of wine service, presentation and attention to detail.
- A collaborative team player who thrives in a fast-paced restaurant environment.
- Holds a valid Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) Certificate.
- WSET or Court of Master Sommeliers certification is desirable.
- Holds full working rights in Australia and is flexible to work across days, evenings, weekends and public holidays.
