Main Purpose of Job

The Wastewater Pollution Prevention and Reclamation\r\nProgram, Municipal Discharge Permit Division is recruiting for a Natural\r\nResources Planner II to perform tasks requiring skills to accelerate the\r\ndrafting and issuance of environmental permit decisions. These decisions\r\nsupport local municipalities in meeting Chesapeake Bay nutrient reduction\r\nrequirements within their NPDES permits, including nutrient trading.��\r\nThese responsibilities include preparing correspondence to address public\r\ncomments on complex technical or policy requirements during the public\r\nparticipation process.�This�field position requires travel to various\r\nsites throughout Maryland's surrounding counties.\r\nThe working conditions and physical demands associated with\r\nthis role involve:\r\n\r\n\r\n Regular exposure to uncomfortable surroundings,\r\n specifically during site visits to wastewater treatment plants where unpleasant\r\n odors are consistently present.\r\n Exposure to hazardous conditions, such as chlorine and\r\n other chemicals used in the treatment process, that may pose a risk of injury.\r\n Physical demands such as lifting 50 pounds or more and\r\n climbing ladders. Field surveys and site visits involve extensive walking\r\n through rough terrain, as well as navigating embankments and marshlands.\r\n Use of protective equipment is required, including goggles,\r\n gloves, and masks. Hard hats are also necessary on an occasional basis.\r\n\r\n\r\nThis�field position requires travel to various sites\r\nthroughout Maryland's surrounding counties.� The incumbent in this\r\nposition will be required to drive a State vehicle.\r\nDriver’s License:�A\r\nvalid driver’s license with no more than five points is required to operate a\r\nState vehicle.\r\nOut-of-State Licenses:�If\r\nyou hold an out-of-state license, you must provide a certified copy of your\r\ndriving record from the appropriate Motor Vehicle Administration at the time of\r\nappointment.\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

\r\nApplicants\r\nmust satisfy the minimum qualifications to be considered for this position and\r\nmove forward in the hiring process. �Please read all requirements before\r\napplying.\r\nEducation:�� A Bachelor’s degree from an\r\naccredited college or university in an environmental science or natural\r\nresources planning, management or development.\r\nExperience: One year of experience in natural\r\nresources planning or applied environmental science.\r\nNotes:\r\n1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor’s\r\ndegree from an accredited college or university in urban or regional\r\nplanning, engineering, physical geography, or the physical, chemical,\r\nbiological sciences and one year of experience in natural resources planning or\r\napplied environmental science for the required education.\r\n2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master’s\r\ndegree from an accredited college or university in natural resources planning,\r\nmanagement, administration, development, environmental, urban or regional\r\nplanning; resources economics or development; environmental\r\nsystem management; water or land resources planning and management;\r\nenvironmental landscape architecture; or the physical, biological,\r\nchemical or environmental sciences for the required experience.\r\n\r\n\r\n3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces\r\nmilitary service experience as a commissioned officer in the general\r\nnatural resources management and biological sciences classifications or general\r\nnatural resources management and biological sciences specialty codes in the\r\ngeneral natural resources management and biological sciences field of work on a\r\nyear-for-year basis for the required experience and education.\r\n

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Please\r\nnote that your answers to the supplemental questionnaire must correspond to the\r\ninformation provided on your application to receive credit.\r\nIt is preferred that the selected candidate has a degree in\r\nthe following disciplines:\r\n\r\n\r\n Environmental Science\r\n Hydrology\r\n Geology\r\n Geography\r\n Natural Resources Management & Planning\r\n Biological Science \r\n Chemical Science\r\n\r\n\r\n�It is also preferred; the selected candidate has working\r\nknowledge and experience using Geographic Information Systems (GIS).�\r\n
