Main Purpose of Job
The main purpose of the job is\r\nto receive incoming telephone calls that come into the Division and properly\r\ntransfer the calls to the appropriate person or extension. Provide callers with\r\ngeneral information about the Division including assisting the public with\r\nquestions and guidance of our website. Provide walk-in individuals with general\r\ninformation about where to go on our website to compete their applications.\r\nResponsible for greeting, announcing and directing visitors as well as maintain\r\na daily log of all visitors. Process all mail and packages that is received and\r\nensure that it is distributed to the appropriate units.\r\n
POSITION DUTIES
Receives incoming telephone\r\ncalls and transfers the call to the appropriate person or extension number;\r\n�\r\nProvides callers with general\r\ninformation about the Division including assisting the public with questions\r\nand guidance of our website;\r\n�\r\nProvide walk-in individuals\r\nwith general information about where to go on our website to compete their\r\napplications;\r\n�\r\nMay greet, announce and direct\r\nvisitors as well as maintain a daily log of all visitors;\r\n�\r\nProcesses all mail and packages\r\nthat is received and ensure that it is distributed to the appropriate units;\r\n�\r\nMaintain active and current\r\nMaryland Interagency law Enforcement System (MILES) and National Crime\r\nInformation Center certifications;\r\n�\r\nPerforms comprehensive criminal\r\nbackground checks via computer, as identified by Command and policy, within\r\nlegislatively mandated time frames;\r\n�\r\nReview applications by\r\nindividuals who purchase, rent, or transfer regulated Firearms, register\r\nmachine guns, and those who sell and/or transfer regulated Firearms, or those\r\nwho apply to be designated collectors or become Regulated Firearms dealers\r\nand/or apply for a Handgun Permit, Handgun Qualification License, Security\r\nGuard or Agency, Private Detective or Agency, Security System’s Technician or\r\nAgency, Special Police Officer, or Railroad Police Officer;\r\n�\r\nPerform other duties and\r\nresponsibilities as required to fulfill job function or as assigned or\r\nrequested by supervisory and command personnel.\r\n
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:���Graduation\r\nfrom an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency\r\ncertificate.\r\n�\r\nExperience: Six months of\r\nexperience performing clerical, clerical technical, or secretarial work.\r\n�\r\n�\r\nNotes:��\r\n1. Candidates may\r\nsubstitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university\r\nfor the required experience.��\r\n��\r\n\r\n\r\n2. Candidates may\r\nsubstitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a\r\nnon-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of\r\nindependent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and\r\nregulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year-for-year\r\nbasis for the required education.\r\n
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following\r\npreferred qualifications. LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties\r\nwhich require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties\r\nwill be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the\r\nState of Maryland.\r\n
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
In accordance with Section 2-204(b)(6) of the Public\r\nSafety Article, Candidates for position in this classification will be subject\r\nto an initial drug screening and a complete criminal background investigation\r\nto include a polygraph examination before permanent appointment can be made. A\r\ncriminal conviction may be grounds for rejection of the candidate.\r\n
SELECTION PROCESS
The selection process for this recruitment will involve a\r\nrating of the training and experience provided on the application. Applicants\r\nwho meet the minimum qualifications will be placed on an eligible list in the\r\nBEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED, and QUALIFIED categories. The list will be\r\nused by the hiring manager to select the individual to fill this vacancy. The\r\nlist will be valid for one year.\r\n
EXAMINATION PROCESS
The examination will consist of a rating of your\r\neducation, training and experience related to the requirements of the position.\r\nYou may be required to complete a qualifications supplement, or the rating may\r\nbe based on your application. Report all experience and education that is\r\nrelated to this position. Applicants may be given a physical examination and\r\nwill be subject to an interview, background investigation, polygraph\r\nexamination and substance abuse testing.\r\n
