Now backed by Rinnai Australia, Smart Energy is entering an exciting new stage of growth.
This is a true end-to-end commercial sales role. You’ll proactively generate new business, convert qualified referrals, manage complex opportunities and guide commercial customers from their first conversation through to signed contract and installation.
You’ll work closely with our Technical, Design, Connection Applications and Install Scheduling teams to create commercially compelling solar and battery solutions that are accurately designed, clearly presented and delivered seamlessly.
If you’re a consultative salesperson who enjoys building relationships, managing complex deals and turning technical information into a strong commercial case, this is an exciting opportunity to make a genuine impact.
As our Commercial BDM, you’ll own the growth and delivery of commercial solar and battery storage sales across Australia.
You’ll be responsible for building a healthy pipeline from the ground up while also converting opportunities referred by our Lead Generation team, Residential BDMs and Home Electrification Specialists.
You’ll remain the face of Smart Energy throughout the customer journey, managing each opportunity from qualification and proposal through to negotiation, contract signature and final handover.
- Proactively identify and develop new commercial solar and battery opportunities
- Convert commercial enquiries generated by our Lead Generation team
- Partner with Residential BDMs and Specialists to follow up commercial opportunities identified during residential conversations
- Build a strong referral network across electricians, accountants, brokers and industry bodies
- Develop relationships with business owners, multi-site operators and strata customers
- Maintain an accurate and healthy pipeline in Salesforce
- Qualify commercial opportunities based on customer objectives, site suitability and energy usage
- Work with the Technical team to obtain and interpret NEM12 interval data
- Support accurate system sizing, energy modelling and ROI calculations
- Prepare and present tailored proposals covering system options, payback periods, ROI and commercial finance pathways
- Negotiate pricing and commercial terms within approved margin guidelines
- Manage opportunities through to contract signature
- Keep customers and internal stakeholders informed throughout the sales process
- Complete accurate handovers to Design, Connection Applications and Install Scheduling
- Remain the customer’s key commercial contact through to installation completion
- Work closely with Technical Specialists on system sizing, compliance and non-standard designs
- Identify and flag site-specific risks early
- Provide feedback to Lead Generation to improve lead quality and targeting
- Share market insights, competitor activity, pricing trends and customer objections
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure every project progresses smoothly
- Keep opportunity, quote and deal information accurate and up to date in the CRM
- Provide regular pipeline and sales forecast updates
- Track performance against individual and commercial channel targets
- Maintain strong administrative and CRM discipline across every opportunity
You’ll bring:
- Proven experience in B2B sales, business development or commercial solar sales
- A demonstrated ability to manage a pipeline and close complex, multi-stakeholder deals
- A consultative, solution-focused approach to sales
- Strong relationship-building, networking and negotiation skills
- The ability to explain technical information in a clear and commercially compelling way
- Confidence presenting to business owners and senior stakeholders
- Strong organisation, follow-up and CRM management skills
- A current Australian driver’s licence
- The ability and willingness to travel to client sites
- Willingness to travel nationwide as required
Experience using Salesforce or a similar CRM will be highly regarded.
A background in solar, electrical services, energy, finance or another technical industry would be advantageous, but it is not essential. What matters most is your ability to learn quickly, build trust and confidently manage a commercial sales process.
You don’t need to know everything from day one, but you’ll need the aptitude and motivation to quickly build your understanding of:
- NEM12 interval data
- Commercial load profiles
- Solar and battery system sizing principles
- ROI and payback modelling
- STCs and VEECs
- Commercial energy finance pathways
You’ll be supported by an experienced Technical team, but you’ll need to confidently translate their insights into a clear business case for the customer.
