The Food Service Substitute Worker provides flexible support across Sturgis Public Schools, helping ensure that students and staff receive nutritious, safe, and appealing meals throughout the school day. This position may be assigned to any district location and is expected to assist in any food service role as operational needs arise. Responsibilities include preparing and serving food, maintaining food service areas, and following all health, sanitation, and safety standards. The substitute worker collaborates with kitchen staff and school personnel to support inventory, efficient meal service, and a positive dining experience. Ultimately, this position contributes to the well-being of the school community by delivering dependable, high-quality food service with professionalism and care wherever support is needed.
Responsibilities

- →Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of food preparation and serving areas in compliance with health regulations.
- →Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently while adhering to food safety standards.
- →Assist in receiving, storing, and rotating food supplies to ensure freshness and minimize waste.
- →Provide courteous and helpful service to students, staff, and visitors during meal times.
- →Provide flexible coverage in any food service role at any district location based on staffing and operational needs.
Requirements

- Demonstrated manual dexterity and ability to perform repetitive tasks efficiently.
- Capability to stand for extended periods during shifts.
- Knowledge of basic food safety and sanitation practices.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
- Previous experience in a food service or cafeteria environment.
- Certification in food handling or safety (e.g., ServSafe).
- Familiarity with school nutrition programs and regulations.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Willingness and ability to work in any food service role at any district location based on operational needs.
