Position Summary

Internal / External Posting
The successful applicant will be required to work in accordance with the BCGEU Collective Agreement as well as the applicable policies and procedures of Tla’amin Health and Tla’amin Nation. The successful applicant will be in good physical health. This position is open to applicants of all genders.
Key Responsibilities
Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Tla’amin laws, regulations, policies, practices, and procedures as directed by the Position. Maintains confidentiality as required pertaining to citizens, clients, employees, and general matters of the Nation.
- Follows a lunch menu plan in accordance with accepted nutritional guidelines such as Canada’s Food Guide for healthy eating and the individual dietary needs of the children.
- Prepares, cooks and serves lunch in accordance with safety and health standards and the approved menu plan.
- Oversees the operation of the cooking facilities and equipment and ensures their cleanliness and maintenance.
- Maintains an inventory of food and other related items.
- Purchases and orders food items necessary for the preparation of meals and ensures that purchases are within approved budget limits.
- Daily - temperature checks of refrigerator and freezer
- Weekly - deep cleaning and sanitizing stove, fridge, microwave
- Monthly - freezer check and cleaning as required
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Store food items following safety and health standards.
- Receive and deliver groceries to classrooms on Mondays.
- Performs other related duties as required by the manager.
Qualifications
Education, Training, Experience
- Minimum Grade 12 education
- Certification from a recognized Cooks Training Program preferred or a combination of education, training, and experience in cooking
- Current Food Safe certificate
- Successful Criminal Record check
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and clean driver’s abstract
- Current Basic First Aid and CPR certification – or willingness to obtain
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Knowledge of Canada's Food Guide and healthy eating nutritional requirements
- Physically fit - standing for periods of time and lifts & carries heavy food items
- Work independently and as a team member
- Verbal, written and reading skills
Working Conditions
Work is performed in both the Health Building and Child Development Resource Centre.
Additional Information
All employees working for Tla’amin Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Proof of vaccination status will be required.
