REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES 

Education 

  • High School diploma or GED and at least five (5) years’ experience in school nutrition programs. 

 

Experience 

  • 3 years’ experience in Food Service; culinary background required – must have a passion and interest in food. 
  • Working knowledge of cooking procedures and recipe adherence and scaling. 

 

Certifications 

  • ServSafe mandatory if required by client, bid, state, town, city, or county in the jurisdiction of employment; must be knowledgeable of all local health and food safety ordinances. 

 

Computer Skills 

  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications is required; must be able to communicate electronically through personal email and/or other similar computer platforms; able to learn new programs easily and quickly. 

 

Other Qualifications 

  • Demonstrated experience developing talent and managing multiple priorities; ability to use critical thinking skills to resolve problems or improve the program overall. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally, electronically, and in writing with clients, parents, students, and support staff; excellent time management and organizational skills. 
  • Bilingual Spanish highly desirable.

  • Team Leadership: Motivates, trains, and supervises Team Members while maintaining consistent, equitable treatment across the team. 
  • Operational Compliance: Maintains adherence to health, safety, and sanitation regulations, ensuring audit and inspection readiness. 
  • Cost and Budget Management: Monitors food, labor, and operating costs within Whitsons budgetary guidelines while sustaining service quality. 
  • Customer Service: Responds to customer complaints and concerns with responsive, actionable solutions. 
  • Production and Quality Oversight: Coordinates food production, merchandising, and quality standards across the program. 
  • Organizational Discipline: Manages inventory, documentation, and multiple priorities with structure and reliability. 

  

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND OTHER DETAILS 

Expected Hours of Work 

This is a full-time non-exempt position. Hours are aligned with the program’s meal service schedule. Position may require extended hours including evenings and/or weekends, travel to multiple work sites, and occasional out-of-district travel.

Use hands and fingers to feel, handle, or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. Stand on feet the majority of the workday, in addition to walking back and forth. Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; lifting while turning side to side is sometimes necessary. Drive his/her own vehicle to other work sites as needed.

Work is primarily “hands-on” during mealtimes; office work is completed before or after mealtimes. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.
