Design and Coaching Specialist - Math (Chicago)

As a Design and Coaching Specialist, you won't simply coach educators—you'll help transform instructional practice across Chicago Public Schools by partnering with teachers, school leaders, and district leaders to strengthen mathematics instruction and build lasting leadership capacity.

• K–8 mathematics instruction and the Common Core State Standards? You can translate standards into rigorous, engaging instruction and help educators understand the mathematical concepts, practices, and learning progressions students need to succeed.
• High-quality mathematics curricula and implementation? You understand how curriculum should come to life in classrooms and have experience supporting materials such as Eureka Math Squared, Skyline, i-Ready, or comparable programs across varied school contexts.
• Instructional coaching that changes practice? You can observe instruction, identify meaningful areas for growth, deliver actionable feedback, and support teachers, teacher leaders, and school leaders through coaching cycles tied to clear goals and measurable outcomes.
• Designing and facilitating professional learning? You create adult learning experiences that are practical, evidence-based, aligned to curriculum, and responsive to the needs of educators and instructional leaders.
• Using evidence to guide improvement? You can analyze classroom observations, student work, surveys, progress-monitoring data, and leadership artifacts, then translate those insights into focused coaching priorities and next steps.
• Building instructional leadership capacity? You know how to help school-based leaders plan, facilitate, monitor, and strengthen professional learning so that improvement continues beyond a single coaching session.

• Building trusted relationships with educators? You bring instructional credibility, reliability, and strong professional judgment to your partnerships with teachers, school leaders, and instructional teams.
• Solving complex instructional challenges? You are energized by diverse school contexts, evolving priorities, and implementation barriers, and you can turn ambiguity into a clear and actionable path forward.
• Connecting coaching and design? You enjoy using what you learn in classrooms and coaching conversations to create stronger tools, resources, learning experiences, and implementation support.
• Helping adults translate learning into practice? You are motivated by seeing professional learning result in stronger instructional decisions, more effective teaching, and better experiences for students.
• Working across multiple schools and priorities? You can organize your work, adapt your approach, and maintain consistent follow-through while supporting several school communities.
• Learning, reflecting, and improving? You welcome feedback, stay curious about coaching and curriculum implementation, and continually refine your practice based on evidence and new learning.
• Collaborating toward system-level impact? You value partnering with colleagues, school leaders, and district stakeholders to identify patterns, strengthen implementation, and improve mathematics instruction across schools.

• This is a location-specific position that requires monthly visits to schools in Chicago. The person in this role must live within a 90 minute drive/train ride from the Chicagoland area. 
• Travel may include:
  • Approximately 1-2 in-person visits at each of the 4-6 schools per month
  • Ongoing facilitation of professional learning sessions in person
  • National travel for org retreats, programming, job related travel, or professional development
  • Outside of the above mentioned travel, this person will work from a home office within the city limits of Chicago, Illinois.
